TIP : the units are more stable if the excess fabric is left on, but you could trim the bottom 2 layers to a 1/4" seam if you desire...
TIP: if you trim after you press open and square up...you get less stretching due to the seams on the diagonal.

  1. Join the 2 different units from step#3 to create arrow unit...press either direction...square up to 4-1/2".

arrow unit

  1. Attach a 4-patch to either side of an arrow unit as shown to create 2 rows...press toward 4-patch.

outer row

  1. Attach arrow units to either side of 4-1/2" square of M1...press toward center.

center row

  1. Attach rows from step#5 to either side of row from step#6 to create block...press seams toward outer rows.
  2. IMPORTANT: Please square up your finished block to be sure it is 12-1/2". If it is larger or smaller, check your seams and redo if necessary. If you do not check your measurements, your block may not join properly with other blocks easily to create a finished quilt.

This is what your block might look like.
