You need 3 fabrics for this block: WOW, a light/medium and a dark. Your colors should both be the same color...both blues, greens, purples, etc... We will be making this one 12" finished.

Cut as follows:

Cut 4 3-1/2" squares
Cut 2 4" squares

Cut 4 3-1/2" squares
Cut 2 4" squares

Dark(Dk)

Cut 4 4" squares

Sewing Instructions:

  1. Mark Diagonal on the wrong side of the 4" squares of Bkg; match wrong sides together with 4" squares of Dk; stitch 1/4" to either side of diagonal mark; cut apart and press toward Dk fabric.

  1. Mark Diagonal on the wrong side of the 4" squares of L/M; match wrong sides together with 4" squares of Dk; stitch 1/4" to either side of diagonal mark; cut apart and press toward Dk fabric.

dark-Light hst

  1. Attach 3-1/2" square of L/M to 3-1/2" square of Bkg; press toward L/M.

  1. Attach an HST from step#1 to an HST from step#2 as shown...press in direction of arrow.

hsts

  1. Attach a unit from step#3 to a unit from step#4 as shown; press in direction of arrow.

quarter block

  1. Join 2 units from step#5 as shown; press in direction of arrow.

half block

  1. Join units from step#6 to create block...if you seem to have too much bulk in center...stitch to center from one edge (pushing seams away from stitching) and back stitch...repeat from other edge.

 

  1. IMPORTANT: Please square up your finished block to be sure it is 12-1/2". If it is larger or smaller, check your seams and redo if necessary. If you do not check your measurements, your block may not join properly with other blocks easily to create a finished quilt.
