                      Message from the President

Finally, warmer weather is here! Many will start going to baseball games to watch their children and grandchildren play. Some will work in their flower and vegetable gardens. There is never a lack of anything to do at this time of year. Don't forget to take time for yourself and sew a quilt. If you signed up for the workshop, don't forget -- it starts at 1:00 PM. See you at guild meeting.

Happy Quilting, Barbara

April 22 – Alicia Gentry  from Pea Ridge AR will be teaching a class on Ribbons and Stars from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Cost is $15.00 per person and you will need to purchase the pattern from her at class. A supply list is available from Sherry. Please have your fabric pre-cut before class as this will save class time for more sewing and learning. Yes, there is some paper piecing but it is for accuracy and is straight line. Alecia will have a lecture at our evening meeting titled "Inspiration Comes from Everywhere."  www.noblepatchwork.com

May 27 – Susan Stewart – Pittsburg KS – will be showing us Heirloom Sewing Trunk Show. See dozens of examples of heirloom sewing projects up close! Both garments and quilts will be shown. Theme for April is “April Showers”.   Hope everyone makes a block!!!    This is your chance to step outside what you might normally do and try something new.  Sometimes blocks may seem challenging, but it’s good to learn something new.  Trying new blocks will build your confidence to make more challenging blocks and quilts.

April’s Block – Umbrella/galoshes applique using bright colors.  Block is to be 12 ½ “ unfinished and will finish to 12”

Reminder:  If you’re participating in the “Brown Bag” project, at the April meeting, you need to turn in your brown bags with the first border on.

If you have checked out Library Books, please remember to bring them back!!!!!!

The following were seen in a quilt store made into mini quilts (wall hangings).

How to know if you are a REAL quilter

 1.  There's more fabric in the house than food.

 2.  "Fat quarter" is not the heaviest part of your body.

 3.  Your ironing board is always set up, but you never iron clothes.

 4.  You think of your job as an interruption of your quilting time.

 5.  You pet fabric.

 6.  People are always picking thread off you.

 7.  You can measure a scant 1/4 inch by eye.

 8.  Featherweight doesn't mean boxer.

 9.  Your "UFO's" are not from outer space.

10. You clean up your sewing room and your family thinks that you

      are leaving home.

Rules for Quilting

1.  Always buy new fabric no matter how much you already have.

2.  Sew all day and all night.  Absolutely no cooking allowed.

3.  Use a lot of spit for tiny droplets of blood.  This always makes the quilt personal.

4.  And always start a new quilt before the last one is finished.  This requires you go back to step 1.

Give a quilter an inch and she will think she is the ruler.

NOTICE:  Around the Block Fabric & Quilt Shop is going out of business as the owner is moving to another area.  She will be open at least through April and maybe some of May.  Everything is up to 50% off.

Ladies, there is an excellent article in the April issue of McCall’s Quilting Magazine.  It is by Nancy Smith and Lynda Milligan.  The article is “Support Your Local Shop”.  We are blessed by several quilt stores in our area.  Each store has it’s own personality and I hope they all continue to do business for many years to come!  Please SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL QUILT STORE!!
