                      Message from the President

Happy New Year!! Now is the time for a fresh start. How about trying to finish up some of those UFO’s this year. Then again, why not start some more. There are some beautiful new fabric lines and patterns out there. Might even be able to use some of your stash. Whatever you decide to do, just keep on sewing!

Happy Quilting, Barbara

Do you find yourself buying a book or pattern that you already have in your collection?  Are you able to find the book or pattern in your collection that you want to use?  “Jody” in one of my on-line groups does the following:  “What I did was create an Excel spreadsheet with the normal headings, author, main topic, yr published, price, publisher, ISBN # and so on.  I also include a number column for each book.  Then I got some archival tape and numbered each book on the spine, (yes, some are a challenge, since that are not all hardcover, but we managed).  That way ALL of them can be inserted onto the bookshelves in numerical order.  So, when I consult my printed list for say ‘watercolor’ technique, I know all I have to do is go to my bookshelf, pull down 101, 98 and 15 and I have my entire group of watercolor books.  Using the ‘sort’ feature on Excel I can sort them by author, by technique, or by title so I can immediately find what I am looking for.  Also, if I loan any out to friends, I can note ‘Sally took book #10 on 10/30/07’’ on a separate page that I have attached to my master list.”  I know of at least one guild member that has her list on books on excel and carries it with her on shopping trips.

Send me your tips and suggestions.  We can all use a little help at times.
