Judy is also willing to do a workshop on "Topsy Turvy Nine Patch" (found on her Website www.sunshinequilts.com under patterns - scroll to get to Topsy Turvy) from 1:00-5:00 pm . The cost would be $20.00 per person and a $5 pattern charge at the workshop. We would need to have 15 people signed up and paid to do this. If interested email or call Sherry, check your membership book for Sherry's info.  Another of Judy's websites to checkout -  www.judylaquidara.com and Judy's blog is  www.patchworktimes.com   Block by Block will be vending so bring your money.

August 26 – Debbie Wiesner from Derby, KS will do a lecture and trunk show. She does "Out on a Limb" patterns and will have a workshop that day. The cost is $20 and we need 20 people to sign up. Her website is www.outonalimbpatterns.com

Send me your tips and suggestions.  We can all use a little help at times.

Carol – Newsletter, members please get my email from your book.

Theme for July is “4th of July”.   Hope everyone makes a block!!!  This is your chance to step outside what you might normally do and try something new.  Sometimes blocks may seem challenging, but it’s good to learn something new.  Trying new blocks will build your confidence to make more challenging blocks and quilts.

July’s Block – Lemoyne Star Strips in red, white and blue - Instructions for this block were passed out at the meeting. If you need a copy, contact someone who was at the meeting and ask them to make you a copy.  NOTE: This is a correction to the instructions that were passed out at the June meeting for the July Block of the month.  The instructions are for one (1) 5 1/2" square that is cut twice on the diagonal.  It should be one (1) 7 1/4" square cut twice on the diagonal.  These make the center setting triangles.  It sure makes up into a very pretty and patriotic block.

(Check the BOM on here and there is one way of doing catherdral windows.)

Reminder:  If you’re participating in the “Brown Bag” project, at the June meeting, you need to turn in your brown bags with the third (final) border on. The brown bags will be revealed.

If you have checked out Library Books, please remember to bring them back!!!!!!

If you know of a guild member who is sick or has had a death in the family, please call the secretary of the guild and let her know so she can send a card. The current secretary is Pat Barlow. Please call her on her cell phone as listed in our membership list.

FALL RETREAT NEWS

It's soon going to be FALL and time for some serious sewing,,,,,Not that we don't all sew all year round. But Fall is always the time of year that everyone cranks it into high gear for special gifts from the heart. A lot of that sewing gets done at our annual Fall retreat. As you know, the recent tornado did quite a bit of damage to the Ozark Campground and Retreat. Since we are not sure exactly when they will be up and running again, it was decided by the board to have a one-day sewing retreat instead of the usual weekend.

The retreat will be held at the Galena Community Room
on Oct. 11th from 9am to 9pm. Since it will last all day we will need to eat!!!!!!! Everyone needs to bring their own beverage and a side dish to add to the meal. A sign up sheet will be passed around to make sure we don't end up will all desserts or all dips.

At this time, I am not sure if a kit will be offered. Since the retreat is only one day we may not want to take the time away from our regular sewing. That will be brought up at the next meeting to see what everyone would prefer to do. If a kit is offered, it will need to be paid for in advance.

The Galena Community Room is easy to find. Starting from Joplin, take 7th St. west to
Galena. Stay on 7th and go straight thru Galena's one stop light,,,,,the crosswalk at the school does NOT count!,,,,,and continue straight for 1 1/2 blocks. The Community Room is on the right in the same building as the Fire Dept. and Police Station. There is a big parking lot in the front of the Municiple Building. You can't miss it.

It will be lots of fun. And did we mention DOOR PRIZES?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??! Please plan to join us for a fun day full of friends and fellowship and hopefully none of that dirty word,,,,,,,(unsewing)!!!

Pat Macneil
